U.N. observes annual anti-Israel ritual

It's that time of year again:

Israel is not putting a lot of energy into battling the annual anti-Israel ritual at the UN known as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, scheduled for Monday.

Every year on this day, the UN passes a number of pro-Palestinian resolutions that blast Israel, and one diplomatic official said that Jerusalem had concluded it was useless to invest much in fighting those resolutions because of the built-in Arab and third-world majority in the General Assembly.

"We pick our battles, and this is one that, because of the numbers, we simply can't win," one senior diplomatic official said.

Inside a Gaza rocket factory

There are rocket "factories" and storage facilities tucked in alleys and warrens across the Gaza Strip, one of the most densely populated places in the world. They are not full-scale warehouses with production lines but otherwise empty rooms or garages that blend anonymously into the concrete block buildings ubiquitous to Gaza's drained landscape.

Inside this storage hold, the walls and windows had been decorated for our visit with the group's black flags emblazoned with emblems and Arabic script. The Al-Nasser Brigades are an armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, indoctrinated by generations of Gaza's Islamic resistance, and these days loyal to Hamas.

PA Prime Minister: Jerusalem holy to two religions

Speaking at a U.N.-sponsored "peace" conference, Palestinian Prime Minister Salaam Fayad neglects to mention one small detail:

"Jerusalem is home to the third most holy place to Islam, the place where Muhammad rose to the heavens, and the place where Jesus, the Christian, was resurrected," the Palestinian leader proclaimed.

He added that Jerusalem was occupied in June 1967 and called to locate a future Palestinian state capital there.

Let's see now, isn't there another faith that holds Jerusalem as a holy place -- the holy place in this pariticular religion, in fact? What could it be?

Oh that's right, Judaism. The faith that existed thousands of years before either Islam or Christianity. Mr. Fayad, write that down.

Rocket fire from Gaza resumes

Kassam attacks from Gaza continued on Wednesday afternoon with a rocket landing between Sderot and the Sha'ar Hanegev region. No one was wounded and no damage was reported.

In total, some 40 Kassam rockets and mortar shells were fired since the IDF's counter-terror tunnel operation overnight Tuesday.

In what was the worst outbreak of violence since a shaky cease-fire took effect in June, two of the rockets hit Ashkelon, one landing near a school and sending six people into shock.
